‘Fast Five’ Screenwriter Signs Production Deal With Universal

Chris Morgan has a two-year first-look deal, and is writing the next “Fast and Furious” installment and a project entitled “The Eye of the World” for the studio

Chris Morgan, who wrote three of Universal Pictures' "Fast and Furious" movies and is at work on a fourth, has signed a two-year production deal with the studio, Universal announced Tuesday.

TheWrap previously reported that Universal has enlisted Morgan to write a sixth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise. The first four movies have grossed more than $950 million globally.

Morgan wrote the 2006 "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," the 2009 "Fast & Furious" and the upcoming "Fast Five." He also wrote Universal's 2008 "Wanted." He also wrote the studio's upcoming 3D action adventure "47 Ronin," starring Keanu Reeves and Hiroyuki Sanada.

The writer and his production team will have its offices on the Universal lot. He is now developing three projects — "The Eye of the World," for Universal, "The Vatican Tapes," for Lionsgate and "Heatseekers," for Platinum Dunes at Paramount.
