L.A. Production Work Was Up 15% in 2010

Tax incentives in first half of the year helped 2010 finish up double-digits over recession-hit 2009, according to Film L.A.

Production of movies, TV shows and commercials was up 15 percent year-to-year in the Los Angeles region in 2010, according to non-profit tabulator Film L.A.

According to the group, there were 43,646 permitted production days in Los Angeles last year, compared to 37,979 counted for 2009, which was one of the worst years on record for regional filmed entertaiment production.

Commercial production in the region was up 28.1 percent in 2010, the largest yearly increase since Film L.A. began tracking permitted shooting days in 1993.

Feature production grew 8.1 percent in 2010, and a whopping 28.1 percent in the fourth quarter.

TV production ended the year up 11.9 percent over all and 49.9 percent in the fourth quarter, with sitcoms (up 77.9 percnt) and reality shows (up 46.6) driving the growth.

Film L.A. attributed the uptick in feature and television production directly to state film and TV tax incentives.
