FilmDistrict Acquires U.S. Rights to Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Olympus Has Fallen’

Film District plans to release "Olympus Has Fallen," which stars Gerard Butler, April 5, 2013

FilmDistrict has acquired domestic distribution rights to Millennium Films’ “Olympus Has Fallen,” an upcoming thriller starring Gerard Butler, Film District announced on Friday.

The independent distributor plans to release the Antoine Fuqua-directed film nationwide April 5, 2013.

“Olympus is a great action thriller that will keep audiences guessing and on the edge of their seat,” FilmDistrict CEO Peter Schlessel said in a statement.

Also starring Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman, “Olympus Has Fallen,” chronicles a dishonored former Secret Service agent (Butler, left) called back into the fold when terrorists take over the White House. Additional cast members include  Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, Cole Hauser, Ashley Judd, Melissa Leo and Dylan McDermott.

Fuqua, Butler, Alan Siegel, Ed Cathell III, Danny Lerner and Mark Gill produced and Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Heidi Jo Markel executive produced from a script by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.

Film District releases about eight projects per year, the most recent being “Looper.” In December, it will release another film starring Butler, the romantic comedy “Playing for Keeps.”
