Fox 2000 Wins Bidding War for Musical Set to Beach Boys

Susannah Grant (“Erin Brockovich”) is writing the film, which will be produced by John Stamos, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan

Fox 2000 has trumped Universal in a heated bidding war over a feature musical set to the music of the Beach Boys, TheWrap has learned.

Susannah Grant ("Erin Brockovich") is set to write the script based on a pitch, the logline of which is being kept under wraps.

What is known at this point is that the film will feature a fictional storyline, similar to the way the music of ABBA was used in Universal's mega-hit "Mamma Mia!"

John Stamos will produce with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who produced "Hairspray" and exec produced "Chicago," which were two of the most successful musicals in recent memory. They could have a third hit on their hands with Paramount's "Footloose" remake.

Stamos has worked with Zadan and Meron on several projects, including an ABC miniseries about the Beach Boys and the TV movie "A Raisin in the Sun."
