It’s a New Directions Miracle: ‘Glee 3D’ Concert Film Hits Theaters This Summer

Film of the hit show’s live tour gets two-week release on August 12, 2011

Looks like Gleeks just won the big screen equivalent of Nationals.

Twentieth Century Fox Television and Twentieth Century Fox Film announced Wednesday that they will produce "Glee Live! 3D!," a film version of the hit live show's North American tour.

The movie event will hit theaters like one of the show's signature slushie's in the face on August 12, 2011. However, fans  will have to move fast, because the movie will only get a special limited two-week engagement.

Starring 14 members of the show’s cast, including Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), and Chris Colfer (Kurt), the film version will be shot live during the summer concerts. Series creator Ryan Murphy will produce the movie event.

“We promise every passionate ‘Gleek’ a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles," Murphy said in a statement.

Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame,” “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” series) will direct the film.
The movie will include live performances of such New Directions' musical numbers as “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Raise Your Glass,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Lucky."

Tickets for “Glee Live! In Concert!” went on sale in February and Fox reports that they are nearly sold out.
