Fox News Fooled by Parody Report on Obama

“Fox & Friends Saturday’s” Anna Kooiman thought Obama was paying to keep a museum dedicated to Muslim culture open

CNN wasn’t the only cable news network that made a big mistake over the weekend — Fox News mistakenly reported on Saturday that President Obama was paying to keep a museum dedicated to Muslim culture open while WWII memorials were closed during the government shutdown.

Anna Kooiman and her “Fox & Friends” co-hosts (above) followed up on Greta Van Susteren’s earlier reporting on WWII veterans unable to visit their own memorial during the government shutdown.

Kooiman noted that the Republican National Committee offered to pay to keep the WWII memorial open, noting: “It really doesn’t seem fair, especially … President Obama has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the Museum of Muslim Culture out of his own pocket, yet it’s the Republican National Committee who’s paying for this.”

As Media Matters was quick to note, Kooiman’s source was an Onion-esque parody news site called “The National Report.”

Kooiman tweeted an apology for the error on Sunday, writing that her report was based on “flawed research”:

Fox News said the comments will be addressed on the air this weekend.
