Fox Strikes Big ‘Glee’ Syndication Deal … With Itself

Network’s own stations group will have re-run rights to the musical hit starting in fall 2013

Fox Television Stations and Twentieth Television have reached a deal to syndicate the musical mega-hit "Glee," starting in fall 2013.

Currently in its second season, "Glee" scored massive ratings for its post-Super Bowl episode earlier this month, landing 26.8 million viewers.

NEW YORK– Fox Television Stations and Twentieth Television have reached an agreement for the broadcast syndication rights to Twentieth Century Fox Television’s two-time Golden Globe Award winning series “Glee”. The announcement was made today by Paul Franklin, EVP, General Sales Manager, Broadcast of Twentieth Television and Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President of Programming, Fox Television Stations.

“Glee” is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk, Brennan and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers.

Franklin stated: “Brilliantly combining drama, comedy, song and dance, ‘Glee’ has ushered in a fresh, primetime network television experience; we are now thrilled to bring the incredible talents of Ryan Murphy and the cast of ‘Glee’ to weekend syndication beginning in fall 2013.”

This season’s No. 1 entertainment series among teens and a top 3 series among Adults 18-49 and 18-34, “Glee” has been cleared on the Fox Television Stations in the following markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Orlando and Baltimore.

Last Sunday’s special episode of “Glee,” following Super Bowl XLV, delivered over 26 million viewers, the highest for any scripted program in the last 3 years.

“Glee’s” sale to the Fox Television Stations comes on the heels of the previously announced cable syndication deal with Oxygen. Additionally, “The Glee Project” will premiere in June 2011 on Oxygen and will award one lucky winner a coveted seven-episode guest starring role on the third season of FOX's “Glee.”
