America sent one act home on Thursday's finale of the Fox competition
After Wednesday's semifinal performances on Fox's “The X Factor,” it was pretty clear that two of the four acts were definitely moving on to next week's finals.
(Spoiler alert! Don't read if you don't want to know Season 3's finalists)
The two clear finalists are Kelly Rowland's rocker Jeff Gutt from the Over 25s and Simon Cowell's duo Alex and Sierra from the groups category.
For me, that left a toss-up for the third position. There's Paulina Rubio's Carlito Olivero, the last standing from the Boys category and Cowell's country group, Restless Road – made up of previously eliminated soloists.
In my opinion, it was the perfect timing for an Enrique Iglesias performance on the show. It was almost a nod to why America would pick its third finalist. You can probably guess by now that Olivero made it through.
The ambitious singer doesn't have the strongest voice, but he's an all around performer with a personality, good looks and the ability to cross over into Spanish music. It doesn't hurt that Cowell has been complimenting Olivero for weeks on his fighting spirit.
On the other hand, Restless Road has the looks and the talent but very little dynamics to them as a group. They're stiff and still look uncomfortable on stage with one another. Their one dynamic member, Colton Pack, only serves to highlight the lack of stage presence in the group.
It was clear to me that America would reward Olivero for his passion and stage presence. So, America, your Season 3 finalists are Carlito Olivero, Jeff Gutt and Alex and Sierra.
Finals air next Wednesday and Thursday at 8/7c on Fox with performances from Mary J. Blige and “X Factor UK” alums One Direction and Leona Lewis.
