‘Foxcatcher’ Loses AFI Fest Premiere in Move to 2014

Hollywood festival will replace Bennett Miller’s drama with a yet-to-be-determined film

The AFI Fest has confirmed to theWrap that Bennett Miller‘s “Foxcatcher” will no longer have its world premiere on Nov. 8 at the Hollywood festival.

Sony Pictures Classics announced on Thursday night that it was delaying the release of the film from this December to 2014, to give Miller more time to finish the drama about the relationship between DuPont Chemical heir John du Pont (Steve Carell) and Olympic wrestlers Mark and Dave Schultz (Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo).

At the time, SPC did not say how the delay would affect the film’s AFI Fest premiere. But festival director Jacqueline Lyanga and an SPC rep both told theWrap on Friday that as expected, the film has been pulled from the festival at the request of Sony Classics and the filmmaker. Lyanga said that another, yet-to-be-determined movie will take its opening-weekend slot.

The festival begins on Nov. 7 with the premiere of “Saving Mr. Banks” and ends on Nov. 14 with a gala screening of “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
