Carell stars as the mentally ill du Pont chemical heir in Bennett Miller’s new film
Steve Carell is nearly unrecognizable as the creepy, ultra-rich wrestling coach John du Pont in the new teaser for “Foxcatcher,” which debuted Monday.
Bennett Miller‘s film, which is based on the true story, centers on du Pont, a paranoid schizophrenic wrestling fanatic and heir to the massive du Pont chemical fortune. Du Pont takes two wrestling hopefuls, Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo), under his unsettling wing.
“Foxcatcher” made its debut during the Cannes Film Festival this weekend to rave reviews, with TheWrap’s Sasha Stone remarking that Miller “seems incapable of making a bad film.” Carell’s role, in particular, has been generating whispers of a possible Oscar nomination in a turn that is miles away from his usual comedic fare.
“Foxcatcher,” an Annapurna/Sony Pictures Classics film, hits theaters Nov. 14.
