Free to Roam, Polanski Appears at Swiss Jazz Fest

Feeling safe in Switzerland, the director cuts his tracking device and leaves the chalet

 

Free to roam after nine months of house arrest at his Swiss chalet, Roman Polanski made his first public appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival this weekend, showing that the director clearly feels comfortable moving about the country that refused to deport him.

Polanski arrived Saturday evening for a performance by his wife, actress and singer Emmanuelle Seigner.

The Oscar-winning director still faces an Interpol warrant in effect for 188 countries for a 1977 child sex case. Swiss authorities allowed him to spend most of his detention at his chalet in the Swiss mountain resort of Gstaad.
