Freeform unveiled its upcoming programming slate at its 2017 Upfronts presentation on Wednesday, including a series order for the mermaid drama “Siren.”
The network has also picked up the Tyra Banks’ “Life Size 2,” the sequel to her 2000 ABC movie with Lindsay Lohan; the animated pilot “Sticks” from “Broad City” duo Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson; and as the unscripted series “Hollywood Movie Night With Karlie Kloss.”
“Siren,” which stars Alex Roe and “Game of Thrones” alum Eline Powell, has been given a 10-episode order. The network has also released the first trailer (above) for the series, which is scheduled to debut in Summer 2018.
The long-gestating “Life Size 2” had previously been in development at Disney Channel, but is now scheduled to premiere on Freeform in December 2018. As in the original movie, Banks will star as Eve, a magical doll who comes to life in what’s described as “a fun, edgy, modern Christmas movie.” Banks will executive produce.
Freeform has also scheduled the previously announced movie “Angry Angel” for December 2017. The network has also teamed with Time Inc.’s People Magazine to develop multiple original scripted movies based on stories from the leading authority on celebrity, pop culture and entertainment news. Everywhere Studios will produce.
The network’s first animated comedy, “Sticks” is described as “an animated ‘Daria’ crossed with ‘Girls’ that follows the life of Sticks, a neurotic 20-something with a head filled with pop culture references and a love of Chili’s.”
Jessica Stickles serves as writer and co-executive producer, with Glazer and Jacobson executive producing alongside Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz. “Sticks” is produced by Olive Bridge Entertainment and animated by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Hailing from the producers NBC’s “Hollywood Game Night,” “Hollywood Movie Night with Karlie Kloss” will made up of segments featuring supermodel Karlie Kloss and her friends offering moment-by- moment commentary around their favorite movies. Hazy Mills Productions’ Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner will serve as executive producers along with Kloss and Four Peaks Media Group’s Ben Nemtin and Duncan Pennand.
