Notable, surprise job change in the world of glossy fashion magazines: Carine Roitfeld, who, as editor-in-chief of French Vogue, was once rumored set to take over for Anna Wintour as editor of the flagship fashion magazine, announced on Friday that she plans to resign.
“When everything is good, maybe I think it’s the time to do something else,” Roitfeld told the New York Times. “I have no plan at all.”
Roitfeld said there is nothing sinister about her decision to leave. “I have no problem with [Condé Nast CEO] Jonathan [Newhouse],” Roitfeld said. “He understood me very well.”
She added: “It’s 10 years that I’m editor of the magazine. I think it’s time to do something different.”
“It’s impossible to overstate Carine’s powerful contribution to Vogue and to the fields of fashion and magazine publishing,” Newhouse said in a statement. “Under her direction Vogue Paris received record levels of circulation and advertising and editorial success.”
