‘Game of Thrones’ After-Show Leaves HBO for Twitter

Bill Simmons is behind “Talk the Thrones,” formerly known as “After the Thrones”

The “Game of Thrones” after-show from Bill Simmons is getting a new title and home.

Simmons’ website The Ringer will broadcast “Talk the Thrones” on Twitter and Periscope live every Sunday following each Season 7 episode of the hit HBO drama series.

The after-show, hosted by Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald, moves from HBO, where it ran on streaming platforms and on-demand under the title “After the Thrones.” It was the first project set up through Simmons’ deal with HBO.

“We love ‘Game of Thrones,’ and we love the way Twitter is thinking about content right now, so we jumped at the chance to blow out our ‘Thrones’ show into an interactive multimedia experience — something that reacts immediately to what just happened, almost like a postgame show in sports,” Simmons said in a statement. “Nobody is equipped to do that better than Twitter.”

Twitter is a natural fit for a “Game of Thrones” after-show, as the Emmy-winning HBO series based on the books by George R.R. Martin was the most tweeted-about TV show in 2016.

“‘Talk the Thrones’ brings the witty banter and real-time analysis you find on Twitter to a live show with hosts that keep it engaging well after the TV show ends,” said Anthony Noto, COO and CFO at Twitter. “The Ringer continues to produce unique live shows about some of the most discussed entertainment and sports topics on Twitter.”

“Game of Thrones” Season 7 launches on July 16 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
