HBO is so serious about “Game of Thrones” Season 7 spoilers that the network had Jon Snow (Kit Harington) lead everyone who attended Wednesday’s premiere in an oath not to ruin the show for anyone else.
We’re going to uphold that oath, but we can tell you this: No one on the show is a dick. That news came from show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who told lucky premiere attendees at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles that they’re often asked which of the actors on set is “a dick.”
They said with a mix of relief and awe that the show has “no dicks.”
We also don’t think it would be a spoiler to tell you this much about the premiere episode of Season 7, which will air Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO:
“Game of Thrones” fans, you will not be disappointed.
Those who attended Wednesday’s screening of the episode were also treated to a performance of the music from the show.
Benioff and Weiss told the audience that when they first started with “Game of Thrones” seven years ago, they forgot until the last minute that they needed a composer. So just weeks before the show was to air, they asked around for advice on who would be the absolute best — and were told, Ramin Djawadi.
However, he told Benioff and Weiss he had scheduling conflicts and couldn’t compose the score. So, the showrunners joked, they did what they always do in those situations — begged and groveled.
Djawadi then stepped onto the stage and took full advaantageous of the lush acoustics of the concert hall. The orchestra performed a goose bump-inducing live performance of the “Game of Thrones” theme while the show’s famous credits sequence rolled on screen. Then, we saw a recap of last season’s final episode, including the major explosion of the Great Sept of Baelor and Daenerys Targaryen’s venture to retake her home.
And then, it was time. The sizzling sound of HBO’s logo appeared on the screen, and the auditorium filled with silence and darkness.
Soon, it was broken: Something happened onscreen that made the auditorium erupt in cheers. There were stunning visuals, huge laughs, moments that kept us silently captivated.
And that’s all we’re going to say. We don’t want to upset Jon Snow.
