‘Game of Thrones’ Ratings: Shocker Snags 6.3 Million Viewers

The HBO series sees 48 percent increase year-over-year for Sunday’s surprising episode

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” attracted 6.3 million total viewers for Sunday’s episode, which revealed a major death for the series.

That represents a 48 percent increase for Season 4’s second episode as compared to last season. The series added 1.7 million more viewers with episode replays later on Sunday, which augments the episode’s viewers to 8 million.

Last week’s Season 4 premiere earned a record-breaking 6.6 million viewers.

In Sunday’s episode, the character “Game of Thrones” fans loved to hate finally met his maker when Joffrey was poisoned at his wedding.

As for the rest of Sunday’s programming, new series “Silicon Valley” averaged 1.7 million viewers at 10 p.m. Over the night’s replays, that number increased to 2.2 million total viewers.

This season’s second episode of “Veep” delivered 860,000 viewers at 10:30 p.m. and reached a total of 1.4 million viewers over the night.
