George Clooney will receive the 2013 Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) announced on Tuesday.
The award will be presented to Clooney at the Britannia Awards on Nov. 9, giving him a spotlight moment during an awards season in which he will already have a significant presence.
“The Monuments Men,” a drama about rescuing artwork from the Nazis directed by and featuring Clooney, will be released in December by Sony. He also produced the awards contender “August: Osage County” and stars in Alfonso Cuaron‘s “Gravity,” which will open the prestigious Venice Film Festival in August.
"George Clooney is without question one of our industry's true icons," said BAFTA Los Angeles chairman Gary Dartnall in a release announcing the award. "His work has captivated audiences from all corners of the globe, and BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to be celebrating his immeasurable contributions to our craft."
Previous recipients of BAFTA LA’s Stanley Kubrick Award include Warren Beatty, Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, Daniel Day Lewis, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, George Lucas, Sean Penn, Steven Spielberg and Denzel Washington.
