GetGlue Hits 3M Users, Launches ‘HD’ Update to App

App tries to offer a more immersive second-screen experience

Fresh from hitting 3 million unique users, social TV company GetGlue is launching a revamped app today that seeks to give users a more immersive second-screen experience.

The new app, dubbed GetGlue HD, is available now for iPads and will be available in the fall for iPhone, Android, and GetGlue.com. The streamlined, simple service notifies users when their favorite shows are on, lets them check in to tell friends what they're watching, and provides a forum for commenting on shows.

It also offers suggestions based on a formula that uses past check-ins, friends' likes, and Facebook likes. Seventy-five percent of GetGlue users connect to the service through Facebook.

The new guide is no longer set up like a grid, but instead gives the most prominent play to the shows airing soonest.

GetGlue CEO Alex Iskold unveiled the update at the Social TV Summit last month.

The app also gives users their favorite sports teams’ scores, schedules, and stats, recommends new movies in theaters, suggests shows and movies for streaming, and aggregates clips, images, tweets from TV stars, and show recaps.

The company, which was launched in 2008 by New York-based AdaptiveBlue, says its 3 million users have contributed 500 million check-ins, likes, and reviews.
