“Girls” ended its six-season run with a series finale that was dominated by one storyline: Hannah’s inability to get her newborn son Grover to breastfeed.

It was an unconventional finale, set five months after the last time we saw all four titular girls together in the penultimate episode, that left the fates of most of the other main characters on the HBO series in question.

Executive producer and co-showrunner Jenni Konner filled us in on what they were up to while Hanna (Lena Dunham) and Marnie (Allison Williams) did their best impression of an old married couple sniping at each other in the suburbs of upstate New York while raising a baby together.

“I think it’s not that different from where we left them in the penultimate episode,” Konner told TheWrap. “At that point, everyone’s in New York doing their thing: Shoshana (Zosia Mamet) is planning a wedding. Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is still in school at that point — I think she and Adam (Adam Driver) have a couple more years together if they don’t murder each other. I think everything’s just going on without Hannah.”

To end the series with Hannah as a young single mother was a surprise to most fans, but she and Dunham were passionate about the idea, Konner said, adding that the two cemented it around Season 4, when they discussed the eventual ending of the show with HBO.

For a more concrete peek into these characters’ futures, we’ll need to see them in a reunion or revival five or ten years down the line. Like Allison Williams, Konner is up for it — though she deferred that decision to HBO.

“The internet asks us all the time, and I’m like, you’re asking the wrong people!” Konner told TheWrap. “We’d be up for it [if the network wants to], totally.”
