The cast of "Glee" has stolen the King's crown. At least as far as "Billboard" magazine's Hot 100 song chart goes.
The music magazine said on Wednesday that Ryan Murphy's musical series will debut six new songs in Thursday's edition of its Hot 100 song chart, bringing the number of songs by its caset to 113. With that, "Glee" will surpass Elvis Presley's previous record of 108 songs in the Hot 100.
There is, however, an asterisk attached to this particular milestone: Presley charted several songs prior to the 1958 inception of the Billboard Hot 100 song chart.
And, of course, there's only one King. "Glee" has a whole cast.
"Billboard" said a cover of Katy Perry's hit "Firework" is the highest-charting new "Glee" song at No. 34. (It debuted on the Feb. 8 episode of the series.)
Presley first entered the "Billboard" Hot 100 song chart with "Hard Headed Woman," which reached No. 4. "Glee" first appeared on June 6, 2009, with a cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," which also reached No. 4 on the chart. It was the cast's highest-charting single to date.
In October, the "Glee" cast surpassed the Beatles' "Billboard" Hot 100 appearances, besting the Fab Four's 71 charted titles.
