‘The Good Wife’ Cast and Creators on Sunday’s Shocking Death: Julianna Margulies Cried (Video)

Josh Charles will further discuss his character’s big moment tonight on “The Late Show”

(Spoiler alert: Don’t read this if you haven’t seen Sunday’s “Good Wife”)

Josh Charles has exited “The Good Wife” by way of bullet wound.

The actor’s character, Will Gardner, was gunned down in a courtroom on the CBS Sunday shocker — and now the creators and cast can finally spill the beans about their best-kept secret.

“It’s an event that impacts everyone of our characters emotionally,” Michelle King, co-creator and executive producer said in a behind-the-scenes clip. “We’re hoping from a story sense that we’re going to be able to capitalize [on] it. That this is going to be an opportunity to see how it changes Alicia, how she grows and how she moves forward.”

“I cried, I’ve known Josh for a long, long time,” added Julianna Margulies, who plays Alicia Florrick. “When I heard he was going to be leaving, I called the producers and said, “How about we try to keep him for at least half of next year and write his character out?’”

As for the man departing, Charles addressed his difficult decision. “There’s been a lot of people that have asked me what the reason is, why I wanted to leave the show,” he said. “I felt however much that I’ve enjoyed the experience that I was ready for the next chapter of my life both creatively and personally.”

Later in the video, Charles thanked the fans and guaranteed them that “The Good Wife” will continue to be an excellent show. He’ll still be watching, he promised.

Charles, who has been a lead on the show since its inception, will guest on CBS’ “The Late Show” on Monday night, where the conversation will continue.
