Eclectic mix includes mega blockbusters and indie darlings
MTV announced its Best Movies of 2013 on Wednesday, adding to a packed week of awards announcements.
The network released its list as the third installment of the year-end “Best Of” week. On Monday, MTV's Music and News divisions selected Miley Cyrus as Best Artist of 2013, due in large part to her controversial twerkfest with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
Pope Francis, who on Wednesday was named Time Magazine's Person of the Year, and singer Lorde were named mtvU's Man and Woman of the Year, respectively.
According to the network, the criteria included overall quality, box office success, buzz and consideration of the awards season races. All films included must have a premiere date prior to the end of this year – so some of the films listed are ones MTV viewers haven't even seen yet.
Also announced Wednesday were the Screen Actors Guild Award nominees, and Golden Globe nominations will be revealed on Thursday morning.
