Greg Mottola Tapped to Direct Aaron Sorkin’s HBO Pilot

“Paul” director will handle the former “West Wing” honcho’s new drama.

Aaron Sorkin's upcoming pilot for HBO has found a helmsman.

HBO confirmed that Greg Mottola has signed on to direct the project, a drama centered around a cable news show. Mottola, who directed the recent Simon Pegg/Nick Frost sci-fi comedy "Paul," has a TV résumé that includes several episodes of "Arrested Development," "Undeclared" and "The Comeback."

"Dumb and Dumber" actor Jeff Daniels is in negotiations to play the lead, though no final deal has been struck yet.
