Released in 2013, “Debt” is a satirical novel on the 2008 financial meltdown that posits that even the wealthiest people are in someone’s debt.

It follows Lillian Fitzgerald, a writer who begins to fear that the thousands of dollars of debt she took on for a graduate degree in creative writing will never pay off. She decides to take on a job at a SAT tutoring company that is owned by the son of the man who owns the bank that services her student loans. She’ll begin to discover dangerous secrets behind the banker’s wealth that could place her life in jeopardy should anyone find out that she knows what she knows.
