‘Gulliver’s Travels’ Actress Gemma Whelan Cast in ‘Game of Thrones’

Her character’s name will undergo a name change from Asha Greyjoy to Yara Greyjoy

HBO's "Game of Thrones" has found its Asha Greyjoy. Or, rather, its Yara Greyjoy.

"Gulliver's Travels" and "The Wolfman" actress Gemma Whelan has has been cast in the upcoming second season of the hit fantasy series, playing the role of Asha Greyjoy, which is being changed to Yara Greyjoy for the series, HBO has confirmed to TheWrap. (It's been suggested that the name change occurred because the name Asha is too similar to that of the show's character Osha.)

Whatever name her character goes by, Whelan will be playing a badass on the series. The sole remaining child of Balon Greyjoy following the abduction of Balon's son Theon, Asha/Yara bucks tradition by taking control of a ship and amassing a group of men to do battle. In George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, Yara makes a return to the isles moves to take her father's throne following his death.
