‘Hair Battle Spectacular’ Fires Up Oxygen’s Summer

Also new: “Jersey Couture,” plus returning “Dance Your Ass Off,” “BGC Miami”

We’re inclined to just let Oxygen’s press release speak for itself when it comes to describing the female-targeted cable channel’s summer lineup:

"From Jersey’s ‘First Family of Fashion’ to ‘thinspirational’ contestants, hot Miami action to an outrageous battle of the tresses, Oxygen has enough summer heat for everyone."

Need that translated? That’s where TVMoJo comes in.

New series "Jersey Couture" premieres Tuesday, June 1, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The Scali family’s Diane & Co. follows Diane’s daughters, Kimberly and Christina, in both high fashion and family hijinks. Diane & Co. sells it all, from prom dresses to mother-of-the bride gowns, leopard print to gold sequins, providing women with a Cinderella experience of a lifetime! "Jersey Couture" is produced by Magilla Entertainment. Brian Flanagan and Matthew Ostrom are executive producers and Laura Palumbo Johnson and Jacqueline Cardillo Garofano are co-exec producers.

Another new series may have the best title of the summer: "Hair Battle Spectacular"! Premiering in August, the competition series is hosted by Brooke Burns. It pits 10 of America’s hottest stylists against each other to see who can deliver the biggest and best in fantasy hair design. "Part sculpture and part pop art, each challenge will require the stylists to create outrageous hair designs that resemble everything from multilayer wedding cakes to toys with movable pieces. But in the end, only one hairdo will be left standing," says Oxygen. Judges are "award-winning fantasy hair designer" Derek J and celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese, plus a rotating guest judge. And as if the hair-styling drama isn’t enough, the stylists live together as they fight each week to stay on the show and win the ultimate prize of $100,000. "Hair Battle Spectacular" is produced by 3 Ball Productions with JD Roth, Todd Nelson, Adam Greener and Mike Nichols (the Mike Nichols?) serving as executive producers.

Returning shows include "Dance Your Ass Off," which premieres Monday, June 7, at 11 p.m. ET/PT before moving to its regular 10 p.m. slot the following Monday, and "Bad Girls Club," heading to Miami for its fifth season.

New "Dance" host Mel B. joins a panel of judges — Lisa Ann Walter, Danny Teeson and a weekly guest judge — on season two of the hybrid dance/weight-loss competition series. Magical Elves’ Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz and Charlie Haykel are executive producers, along with Walter, who created the show, and Kate Rigg.

Premiering in August, "Bad Girls Club" hits the beaches of Miami this summer. Seven self-proclaimed "bad girls" live together in a beautiful mansion, where "clashes constantly erupt between roommates and housemates." Season four of the Bunim-Murray production posted record ratings in first quarter 2010 and made network history as its best performing series ever.
