"It is a true honor to celebrate two such accomplished artists," Hammer Museum Director Ann Philbin told TheWrap. "Barbara and Cindy are powerhouses, their work and its influence extends well beyond the art world and each has had a profound effect on visual culture. They are heroes of mine for sure—but I suspect that I share that with many."

The gala is the Westwood museum's  annual fund-raiser that honors "individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts."

Past honorees include Matt Groening, Lari Pittman, Alice Waters, Charles Ray, Miuccia Prada, John Baldessari, Joan Didion, Ed Ruscha, Dave Eggers and Frank Gehry.
