Happy Second Birthday to TheWrap!

It’s been a wild ride thus far, full of unexpected twists and turns and the most unpredictable changes in media and in Hollywood media in particular. I’m proud to say we are now a company 20 people strong (see many of them at left at our birthday lunch), with a life that extends beyond the site to events, newsletters, magazines and data products.

Yesterday, the day of Oscar nominations, was a very good one around here: Our awards coverage was second to none, cited everywhere from Fox News to USA Today.

An exciting Year Three lies ahead of us.

I am grateful to you incredible readers who have been part of our adventure from Day One, and those who have become passionate fans, contributors and commenters along the way. You have made the site what it is.

On our launch day I wrote: "Our aim is to create the premiere news and information site about the business of Hollywood for the digital age. TheWrap.Com is for anyone who is interested in understanding the changes on going on in entertainment and media culture, and navigating a global industry. We believe these exciting times demand a new perspective on covering the industry, one that embraces the interactivity of the web."

I hope we’ve delivered on that promise, and we will continue to do so. (Birthday cake at right, now eaten.)

Unfortunately no one thought to capture an image of the home page on our launch date, a day that Variety laid off 30 people.

We led with a story that was titled: “Hollywood: Change, or Bust,” and observed:

“This thing called the Internet is causing anxiety throughout the industry by those who wonder if movies and television will go the way of music and newsprint. The key to Hollywood's successful transformation will lie not only in its ability to build new business models adapted to the web, but in its ability to understand and adopt the cultural changes it has wrought. We quickly found our legs, we slowly found our team – lost some, gained others, made mainly friends along the way – and have, as promised, helped lead the entertainment industry into the digital age.

Just for fun, here are a couple of video milestones as we moved from my guest house to a cubby-like office in Santa Monica, to the palace we now inhabit in West LA.
