Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin Join ‘Ender’s Game’

Ford will play Col. Hyrum Graff in Summit’s film adaptation, which opens in March 2013

Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin have both joined the cast of Summit's "Ender's Game," TheWrap has confirmed.

Ford will play Col. Hyrum Graff. In the Orson Scott Card science-fiction novel on which the movie is based, Graff is a commander who notes the high intelligence of Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, an attendee at his Battle School.

The movie will also feature Hailee Steinfeld, according to reports.

The book and movie are set in a future, in which mankind is engaged in a battle against aliens. Asa Butterfield will play the part of  "Ender" Wiggin, a young boy, who is a preternaturally gifted in warfare and is seen as humanity's last hope.

Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") will direct. Hood also wrote the screenplay. 

Summit Entertainment is co-financing and will release the film domestically March 15, 2013. 

K/O Paper Products, OddLot Entertainment and Digital Domain are production partners on the film, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman producing via their K/O Paper Products banner, Gigi Pritzker and Linda McDonough producing via OddLot Entertainment, along with Orson Scott Card, Lynn Hendee and Robert Chartoff.

The film will be executive produced by OddLot’s Bill Lischak, K/O’s Mandy Safavi, Digital Domain’s Cliff Plumer and Ed Ulbrich.
