‘Harry Potter’ Director David Yates Replacing Ang Lee on FX’s Howard Gordon Pilot ‘Tyrant’

David Yates takes over on project from "Homeland" producers after Ang Lee bows out

FX's drama pilot "Tyrant" lost a high-profile director when Ang Lee dropped out of the project last month. But it's gained another high-profile director in David Yates.

Yates — who directed the final four installments of the "Harry Potter" movie saga — has been tapped to replace Lee on "Tyrant," which comes from "Homeland" producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, as well as "Six Feet Under" alum Craig Wright.

The pilot follows an unassuming American family that's drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Raff created the pilot, which was developed by Gordon and Wright.

Lee dropped out of the directing duties in May, saying that the project was "one of the most brilliant ideas for a series that I've seen," but that he needed a rest after promoting "Life of Pi."
