The half-hour show will be co-executive produced by Mark Wahlberg
Dwayne Johnson will return to television, but he won't be wrestling.
The former WWE wrestler-turned-movie-star will lead and executive produce “Ballers,” a half-hour series looking into the lives of a group of former and current football players, an HBO representative told TheWrap.
Johnson stars as Spencer Strasmore, a retired athlete living in Miami. It co-stars Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Rob Corddry, Troy Garity, Donovan Carter, Jazmyn Simon, Taylor Cole and LeToya Luckett.
Levinson wrote the pilot, which Berg directed. Wahlberg previoulsy worked Levinson on “Entourage” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
HBO is producing the series with Closest to the Hole Productions, Leverage Entertainment, and White Buffalo Entertainment.
Johnson also has a reality series at TNT called “Wake Up Call,” in which the actor-wrestler will help ordinary people overcome massive challenges.
