HBO Orders Second Season of ‘Ricky Gervais Show’

Comic says the show’s future is really in the hands of friend Karl Pilkington

HBO has ordered a second season of "The Ricky Gervais Show."

The network Tuesday confirmed it will continue production on the animated series, which mixes original visuals with recycled audio from Gervais’ popular podcasts. The HBO series premiered in February and includes contributions from Gervais, friend Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant.

"With this second series we would have already done as many episodes as ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’ put together," Gervais said, according to the British wire service the Press Association, which broke the news. "This can run and run as long as Karl remains a global village idiot."

Added HBO’s west coast operations and programming chief Michael Lombardo: "Ricky’s hilarious show has sparked a loyal and enthusiastic following that is growing steadily throughout the season, and we’re happy to bring the show back for another season."
