HBO is looking back to look ahead in a brief 2013 montage mixed with a 2014 preview.
The pay-TV network recently posted the end-of-year promo video, celebrating the seasons that were and looking forward to the next year.
The two-minute, 39-second montage opens on “Boardwalk Empire” and winds its way through “The Newsroom,” “Game of Thrones,” “Girls,” “Behind the Candelabra,” “Veep” and other series, films, comedy specials and sporting events from the past 12 months.

But what’s done is done. While HBO isn’t forgetting where it came from, the real draw of the clip is captured by hints of where it’s headed. The channel’s look ahead features quick cuts from the final season of “True Blood,” as well as new series “The Leftovers,” “True Detective,” “Looking,” “Silicon Valley” and others.
The fast-moving teaser probably won’t tell viewers much about their favorite returning series or anticipated new ones, but it’s a cool mash-up with an intoxicating backing track nonetheless.
