‘Hero Complex’ Founder Geoff Boucher to Head to Entertainment Weekly (Exclusive)

Geoff Boucher, the veteran Los Angeles Times reporter who recently left the newspaper, will join Entertainment Weekly

Geoff Boucher, the veteran reporter who left the Los Angeles Times last week, will join Entertainment Weekly, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Details of Boucher's status at the glossy weekly remain unclear, though the magazine is expected to make an announcement before the end of the week.

Reached by phone, Boucher declined to comment to TheWrap. Entertainment Weekly did not immediately respond to an email from TheWrap for comment.

Previously, Boucher told TheWrap he hoped to work for himself and, in the future, partner with the Times on projects.

Boucher, who spent 21 years at the Times, created the widely-read — and lucrative — Hero Complex blog that focused on comic book culture and film. The blog later spawned a film festival, a glossy magazine, an entertainment news program and a screening series.

Top brass at the Times tried to coax the reporter into staying, with editor-in-chief Davan Maharaj and Times President and COO Kathy Thompson each making separate appeals to Boucher to remain at the paper, which has experienced a high turnover rate among veteran editorial employees in the last few months.

Boucher earlier told TheWrap that he left the Times, in part, because of his relationship with John Corrigan, the recently appointed assistant managing editor for arts and entertainment with whom he "didn't see eye-to-eye."
