Big Old New Media Moves: Reuters Names Chrystia Freeland Digital Editor; Time Inc. Loses Another Digital Exec

Three high-profile media moves were announced on Thursday, each with big digital implications.

>> Chrystia Freeland (pictured), global editor-at-large at Thomson Reuters, has been promoted to digital editor there. Freeland, a regular on the business talk show circuit, will be responsible for all online, mobile and digital properties including Reuters.com. She'll report to editor-in-chief Stephen Adler, who was named the company's top editorial slot in February. Freeland is Adler's first major personnel move since he grabbed the editor gig. A year ago hired Freeland away from the Financial Times, where she was its U.S. managing editor. She officially starts her new role on April 11.

>> Time Inc. digital development executive Cindi Stivers has stepped down, Adweek reported on Thursday. Stivers, who joined Time Inc. in 2008 as the managing editor of EW.com, becomes fifth digital executive to leave Time Inc. in the last year — the most recent being chief digital officer Randall Rothenberg, who left in the wake of chief Jack Griffin's firing. Prior to Time Inc., Stivers helped launched Martha Stewart's Sirius satellite radio show; before that, she was the founding president and editor of Time Out New York.

>> Taylor Barada, Yahoo’s recently appointed head of M&A, is jumping to social gaming giant Zynga, Boomtown's Kara Swisher reported Thursday. Barada had replaced Andrew Siegel, who left Yahoo in December to join Condé Nast. As Swisher notes, Barada’s departure "will put a crimp in Yahoo’s already slow-moving merger and acquisition strategies."
