Hollywood Gender Wage Gap: 10 Highest Paid Actors Earn More Than Double Top 10 Actresses

A comparison of Forbes’ annual highest paid actors and actresses list for 2016 once again reveals a shocking pay gap between top female and male talent.

When you add up the earnings of the top 10 actresses — which includes huge stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, and Melissa McCarthy — you get $205 million.

The top 10 actors list is another story. Combined, the top 10 men on the list earned a staggering $457 million, more than double what their female counterparts earned in the same time period.

That’s not the only disparity, either. Lawrence was the highest paid actress in the world with an estimated haul of $46 million over the last year. A pretty penny to be sure, but that payday would only be good enough to land her the number six spot on the actors list, just ahead of Ben Affleck‘s $43 million.

The only other actress who would make the actors top 10 would be McCarthy, who took in $33 million. That puts her in a three way tie for the eighth spot with Robert Downey Jr. and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

After that, the women drop down the list considerably. Johansson brought in $25 million last year, but that means she would rank at number 17 among the actors. That puts her five spots below Adam Sandler, who took in $30 million.

Amy AdamsJulia RobertsMila Kunis, and Bollywood’s Deepika Padukone — numbers seven through 10, respectively, on the highest paid actress list — wouldn’t even crack the top 20 on the list of highest paid actors.
