The  movie is based on Joe Hill‘s novel by the same name, a book that Aja says blew him away. “I mean, that’s what really got me in the beginning, when I read Joe Hill‘s book, ‘Horns,’ four years ago when I was finishing ‘Piranha.’ I got completely blown away about how that crime mystery around this young man trying to find out who killed his girlfriend and having horns growing on his head … was like an amazing kind of shifting of tone,” Aja explained. “I knew that I had to make the movie … I just wanted to make a movie that has all those ingredients.”
