IFC Books U.S. Rights on Michael Winterbottom’s ‘The Trip to Italy’

Follow-up to "The Trip" reunites Winterbottom with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon

IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to "The Trip to Italy."

The film is Michael Winterbottom‘s follow-up to his 2010 road-trip comedy "The Trip," which IFC also released. The latest sight-seeing jaunt will reunite Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon and is in production in Italy.

The sequel finds Brydon commissioned by a newspaper to go on a driving tour of Italy to follow in the footsteps of seminal Romantic poets. Coogan becomes his wing-man for the journey. Hopefully they will rekindle their battling Michael Caine impressions — a highlight of the first film.

"The Trip" received generally favorable reviews when it debuted domestically and earned more than $2 million stateside.

The deal for "The Trip to Italy" was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, senior vice president of acquisitions and productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with GoalpostFilm on behalf of the filmmakers. Goalpost Film is handling international sales.
