IMAX Expands Into Russia; The March to Mytischi

Big screen company inks deals to install four new digital theaters by 2012

IMAX Corporation's global expansion continued Monday, with the big screen company announcing that it will help open four new digital theaters in Russia.

Kinomax and MORI Cinema will serve as the company's exhibitor partners.

Kinomax will open three new IMAX theatres. The first, in Astrakhan, is scheduled to open in late 2011, with the second and third, in Ryazan and Tomsk, set for late 2012.

The MORI Cinema IMAX theatre is slated to open in March 2012 in Mytischi.

Last March, IMAX announced that as part of its agreement with Cinema Park, it would install theaters in such Russian cities as Kaliningrad, Ulyanovsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tula, Penza, Stavropol and Irkutsk.

IMAX has been building its international presence steadily throughout much of the past year, forging partnerships with foreign exhibitors in countries such as China and India.
