IMAX Signs 3-Film Deal with Disney

Slate includes new Robert Zemeckis film, the next “Pirates” and the next “Cars”

Fresh off the solid opening for its first Disney/Pixar movie, “Toy Story 3,” big-screen exhibition chain Imax Corp. has announced a deal with Disney for three other 3D releases.

The arrangement will kick off March 11, 2011 with the Robert Zemeckis-produced “Mars Needs Moms,” starring Seth Green and Joan Cusack, and also include “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (released May 20, 2011) and Pixar’s “Cars 2” (June 25, 2011).

“Toy Story 3” grossed $8.4 million at 180 IMAX locations last weekend, which was the chain’s best opening yet for an animated film.
