Apparently '2012' Might Not Be End of the World

Plans are under way to turn Roland Emmerich's end-of-the-world blockbuster "2012" into a weekly TV series,  before the film even opens.

"Grey's Anatomy" executive producer Mark Gordon, who's also a producer on "2012," is set to lead the show's TV transition, according to Entertainment Weekly. ABC is in talks to land the project, the magazine said.

So given that the whole point of "2012" is, you know, the complete and utter destruction of planet Earth, how would a TV series work?

“The plan is that it is 2013 and it’s about what happens after the disaster,” Emmerich said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. ... I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats. … Maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I’d be excited to watch it.”

OK, but will anyone care if something doesn't get blown up every week?
