J-Lo to Ojani: It's on!
Lawyers for Jennifer Lopez are going to court on Monday to try to stop the sale and release of home videos of the singing and acting star when she was married oh-so-briefly to Cuban waiter and model Ojani Noa.
They're also going to try and stop Noa from moving ahead with what he and his producer Ed Meyer are calling a "mockumentary" about Noa's ongoing obsession with Lopez, who is now married to Marc Anthony. (Think "Borat" meets the Miami Sound Machine. Or somesuch.)
As part of the package, Meyer has sold Noa's home videos with Lopez - which according to my insiders include Lopez near-naked on her honeymoon and scenes of her screaming that she's nearly broke -- to TMZ. Lopez already went to court to bar Noa - to whom she was married for a year in 1997 - from using any information about her in a book or other kind of property. Noa believes he's circumvented that order by making a mockumentary.
Next step, Lopez has mobilized her lawyers to try to get a restraining order this week, and they sent notice of such to Meyer and Noa:
"You are hereby informed that we intend to appear on behalf of Jennifer Lopez at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, in Department [85 or 86] of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, located at 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles, California 90012, on an ex parte application for a temporary restraining order prohibiting each of you and all persons acting in concert with you or on your behalf from engaging in various specified acts including, among other things, exploiting or attempting to exploit home video footage or home videos which include or refer to Plaintiff or her prior relationship with Noa and/or a proposed motion picture or feature film, or project relating to Plaintiff and/or Plaintiff's prior relationship with Ojani Noa, as well as an order to show cause re: preliminary injunction prohibiting you from engaging in the aforementioned conduct pending the arbitration and/or trial of the merits of the allegations in this case. At the same time and place, Ms. Lopez will also seek an ex parte order sealing the file in this case, or confidential and private materials to be filed and/or for an order shortening time on said motion to seal the file.
Plaintiff will also seek an ex parte order for leave for Plaintiff to conduct early or expedited discovery and/or for an order shortening time on a hearing to conduct early or expedited discovery.
If you let me know where you would like the papers we intend to file with the Court delivered, I can have a copy of our application delivered to you in advance of the hearing.

I can’t help myself from watching Nicolas Cage movies. Recent reports, including People Magazine – granted, these are gossip rags that are really only useful for kindling - are coming out about Nicholas Cage broke. Well, the reports of Nicholas Cage broke are true, as the highly successful actor is severely in the hole, with the IRS and mortgage companies. He's trying to do everything he can to pay it off, including auctioning off a lot of his assets, and he has so far blamed his former management for malfeasance. Sam Levin, his former manager, is fingered as the culprit as the person who mishandled Cage's affairs and led to $20 million in liabilities.
