Obama to First-Pitch the All-Star Game

It only seems logical, really.

President Obama, a longtime Chicago White Sox fan who sometimes would show up on the campaign trail wearing a Sox hat, is returning the tradition of the president throwing out the first ball at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball said Tuesday that Obama would throw out the first ball July 14 in St. Louis.

While seven presidents have attended the midsummer classic, he will be only the fourth to have thrown out the first pitch. The last was Gerald Ford, who did it both in 1976 and 1978. Others were Richard Nixon in 1970 and John F. Kennedy in 1962.

George H.W. Bush attended the game twice as president, both times bringing along heads of state of other countries  -- once Mexico and once Canada -- but he never threw out the first ball.

The other presidents who have attended were Ronald Reagan and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The game will be broadcast by Fox.
