Coming off five Spirit Award nominations, “Silver Linings Playbook” is building some box office momentum.
David O. Russell’s dark romantic comedy took in $3.3 million from 371 theaters, an impressive $9,005 per-screen average and just a 24 percent drop from last week, despite adding just four locations.
“This shows that the great word of mouth on this film is starting to take hold,” Erik Lomis, head of distribution at the Weinstein Co. “We think we’re in great shape for the next few weeks.”
“Silver Linings Playbook,” considered an Oscar front runner, stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

Sony Pictures Classics’ awards hopeful "Rust and Bone" had a terrific second week.
The French import starring Marion Cotillard took in $25,823 from two theaters, giving it a $12,912 per-screen average, best of any film this weekend.

Focus Features expanded “Anna Karenina” from 66 to 384 screens in its third week and audiences responded. Director Joe Wright’s take on the literary classic starring Keira Knightley took in $2.2 million for a $5,806 per-theater average.
Fox Searchlight’s “Hitchcock” took in $405,537 after going from 17 to 50 screens in its second week, an $8,111 per-theater average for the drama starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren.
