The creative team that made last year's horror hit "Insidious" is returning for a sequel, the producers said Thursday.
Leigh Whannell, who wrote the 2011 smash, is once again writing, and Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhosue Productions,
Alliance Films, which financed the first film, will finance. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and FilmDistrict have acquired U.S. rights to the movie.
Producers are in talks with James Wan to once again direct.
The movie goes into production this year for a 2013 release.
Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider will executive produce.
"'Insidious' was the most fun project I've ever worked on," Whannell said in a statement. "From start to finish it was an absolute joy — from the writing of the screenplay, all the way to the first screening of the film at the Toronto Film Festival."
The movie starred Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as Josh and Renai Lambert. The couple and their son, Dalton, confronted demons that possessed the boy.
The movie cost about $1.5 million to make and grossed nearly $100 million worldwide.
"We are all so lucky to have James and Leigh return to this great franchise they created," Blum said in a statement. "And of course we are all pleased to be back in business with our partners at Sony, FilmDistrict and Alliance Films."
