Meryl Streep is a witch venturing “Into the Woods” in the first image Disney has released from the upcoming star-studded adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical, which intertwines Brothers Grimm fairy tale characters, including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel.
“Into the Woods,” written for the stage by James Lapine with music and lyrics by Sondheim, is all tied together by an original story involving the Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) — both of whom were cursed by Streep's witch — on a quest to begin a family.
Streep plays the witch hoping to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored, while Anna Kendrick plays Cinderella, Chris Pine her prince and Johnny Depp the wolf hunting Red Riding Hood.
Hollywood's version of the hit Broadway musical lands in theaters on Christmas Day.
