‘It’s Alive’: Aaron Eckhart To Star in ‘I, Frankenstein’

The Lionsgate film is a modern day retelling of the Mary Shelly classic

Aaron Eckhart will play Adam Frankenstein in the Lakeshore Entertainment, Hopscotch Features and Lionsgate production of I, Frankenstein, the companies announced on Friday.

The film is a modern-day retelling of the Mary Shelly classic. In it, Frankenstein's creature has survived into the present day because of a genetic quirk. Making his way to the city, he finds himself embroiled in a centuries old war between two immortal clans.

No word yet on if Adam, the part Eckhart plays, is the creature or his creator.

Shooting will begin in Australia in January.

The film was written and will be directed by Stuart Beattie (writer of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Collateral"), and is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the "Underworld" franchise.

Lionsgate will distribute the film in the United States, Lakeshore will handle international sales and E1/Hopscotch will distribute in Australia.

The film will be released on February 22, 2013.

Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Andrew Mason and Richard Wright of Lakeshore are producing the film, with Hopscotch’s Troy Lum and Kevin Grevioux as executive producers.
