A tweet that Ivanka Trump posted in 2013 has been resurfaced, and, four years later, has backfired on the first daughter.

“If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the fact.” – Albert Einstein #quote #sunday,” she tweeted in June 2013.

On Monday, a representative of the Einstein estate responded, suggesting Trump pick up some light reading to make for more accurate tweet material. “We can confirm that Albert Einstein never said this quote. Here’s a worthy purchase via @PrincetonUPress,” Albert Einstein’s verified Twitter account (it’s run by Greenlight, the authorized representative of the Albert Einstein Estate) replied along with a link to purchase “The Ultimate Quotable Einstein.”

The book contains an annotated collection of roughly 1,600 real Einstein quotes.

Trump could have picked from any of the following real Einstein quotes for her Sunday morning inspiration all those years ago.

“Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth,” from “The Curious History of Relativity.”

“When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute — and it’s longer than any hour. That’s relativity,” from “The Yale Book of Quotations.”

“Common sense is nothing more than a deposit of prejudices laid down in the mind before you reach eighteen,” from “The Universe and Dr. Einstein.”

“If A is a success in life, then A equals X plus Y plus Z. Work is X; Y is play, and Z is keeping your mouth shut,” from “The Yale Book of Quotations.”

The reaction to Trump’s mistake had many making their own wrong quote jokes.
