Jack Black, Kyle Gass Had to Fight to Keep Tenacious D Hardcore in Malaysia (Video)

Black tells Jimmy KImmel they were initially told to keep it “safe and clean for the kids,” so they countered that they just wouldn’t come at all

Jack Black has juggled his acting career with his music career successfully for decades. He remains dedicated to his comedy-rock partnership with Kyle Gass, Tenacious D. The pair were guests on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night, where they talked about their upcoming Asian tour.

Having never been there, they couldn’t say how it might go, though Black said he was hopeful because, “We’re big in Japan.”

When asked, though, if there was any resistance from any of these countries over their material, which Kimmel described as sometimes bordering on the Satanic, Black did have to admit there were some concerns raised.

“In Malaysia, they did say, ‘Now listen, we need you to tone it down and keep it safe and clean for the kids,’” Black said. “And we said, well then we’re not coming to Malaysia.”

According to Black, they backed down immediately, telling the duo, “You come and bring whatever you want to bring. Bring your devils and your mischief and everything.”

He had a theory as to why they were willing to back down, though. “They realized, No one’s going to know what we’re saying over there anyway,” he said. “Who cares? Say whatever you want.”

Tenacious D’s Asian tour kicks off in Malaysia with their devils and mischief and everything in December 2014. The duo will also hit Japan, Singapore and South Korea.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
