Jake Gyllenhaal Battles In, Out of Boxing Ring in New ‘Southpaw’ Clip (Video)

The Weinstein Company movie is set to hit theaters July 24

A new clip for Jake Gyllenhaal‘s “Southpaw” shows that he will do anything for his wife and daughter.

The video reveals new emotional scenes between Billy Hope and his family, as well as intense fighting both in the boxing ring and out of it.

In the Weinstein Company film, Gyllenhaal plays champion prize fighter Hope. Despite making it to the top of the boxing world, Hope nevertheless lets his demons get the best of him, leading to the death of his wife (Rachel McAdams).

Consumed by grief and addiction, Hope loses his daughter Leila (Oona Laurence) to child protective services and is ultimately suspended from professional boxing.

The former champ decides to stage a comeback with the help of trainer “Tick” Wills (Forest Whitaker). But can he overcome his past and fight for his future?

TheWrap reported about the first “Southpaw” trailer in March.

The TWC film will hit theaters July 24. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal.
